A Tribute to Silent Pictures...

I've been lucky enough to work closely with some mags, swallowing the best part of my photo production along the years. But some pictures, whatever their quality,  never make it to print publication, or in a very small and discreet way. It can be a question of bad timing. Sometimes, the rider has just changed sponsorship in the season, making all the pics obsolete. Maybe the pic is a little too close to another one, with another rider, or a more pleasing mood for the journalist. Or sometimes it is just my fault, being too lazy to hassle foreign magazines. I would say the average living time for an action pic is 6 to 12 months in press, since you depressed the shutter. Then it's dead for publication in specialized magazines. The interest has moved to something, or someone else. Still, I had a very nice cover last year of a ski magazine with a picture shot more than 2 years before ! But that's a very peculiar case. Sometimes, pics get indeed noticed by photo editors, saying woaw, this one would be perfect for next year ! But that sentence means generally they'll totally forget them, unless they match the subject of a special feature article, and in that case they will be dropped in the right folder. Otherwise, they will go in the forgotten forever digital abysses of an obscure hard drive, very close to the bin of death. Here are a few samples of some of my forgotten pics, hopefully they are not so numerous...
